Melody and Raechel needed a break from the heaviness of the state of things, so they decided to travel back to the late 90s for some AOL-era survey questions! Admittedly, they still manage to talk about some heavy stuff–(CN: brief discussion of Michael Jackson’s history of child sexual abuse)–and kill some joy, but overall it’s a pretty light episode full of laughs and getting to know more about your two fave feminist hosts! ❤

Plus our regular installments of Who’s Ruining the Dinner Party? and our RWLs of the week!

Early day!

Fall

  1. Favorite political ideology?

Did Raechel write this? Hegemony. I don’t like that it exists but it is helpful for me to understand the lack of uprisings.

  1. Favorite fiction writer?

I am more of a non-fictiony grrrl. I don’t obsessively read particular authors but I have read a lot of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. In one of her books there is a lot of scenes in a hair salon and I think about those scenes often. For no reason.

  1. First official romantic partner?

Adam, who I dated right at the end of high school. Otherwise people at my HS WERE THE WORST so I didn’t date much.

  1. Cook at home or eat out?

Oooo I love to do both! I still find eating out to be such a luxury from the 10 years I waited on other people. I don’t take one moment of eating out for granted.

  1. First concert? Most recent concert? Favorite concert?

Ok. First concert was Raffi/The Elephant Show but I think NKOTB would be more officially a concert (I was AMPED about that show, I remember coming home and telling my mom all about it. My dadd took me). Most recent concert was Lizzo on my bday (is that right? I am slow going on my shows). And favorite concert…whew this one is hard. In terms of current-era Melody, the two shows are Big Freedia and Grrrl Prty–both at Triple Rock.

I think my first was an anti-war protest in Chicago. I dragged my friend Kevin with me. I insisted we go. It was huuuuge.

Most recent :: Jamar Clark verdict (no charges)

Most memorable :: Bush’s 2 inauguration, first time witnessing Black Bloc, I walked right into their feeder march and almost got pepper sprayed. I was hooked and kept following them around.

Duh. I am not even answering this. Although, I will always respect Kanye for what he said on live TV after Katrina.

  1. Is any porn redeemable, if so what are your recs?

I did. I can’t recall particulars but if I sleep past 6:30 my dreams get mega vivid and it drives me nuts.

  1. Facebook or Twitter?

That’s a tough one. Twitter for breaking news. FB for cultural commentary .

  1. Youtube or Netflix?

YouTube is getting crazy about copyright policing so the benefits are lacking. Netflix!

  1. Abolish prisons or Reform prisons?

Abolish

  1. Favorite animal other than a cat? (because obvi cat will win)

I really like spider monkeys.

  1. Favorite spice?

TURMERIC.

  1. Favorite witch practice?

I don’t have one but support this 100%

  1. Michael Jackson or Prince?

MJ4LYFE. I know there are a lot of accusations of child molestation with him. Because I have unconditional love for MJ, I am empathetic with his issues. It is never OK to molest a child or possess child porn. My empathy lies in his mental health issues that he didn’t seem to treat. If you were raised in an abusive home (which he was), you are already fucked up for life. Then add on to it being the biggest star in the world starting when you were a preteen…I mean, c’mon. Biebs is currently breaking down. Miley, Britney, etc. Our obsession with celebrity culture does this to people. We don’t respect their need for mental health care. We just demand more and more. And then we tear them apart when they can’t handle all the pressure. Unfortunately the way MJ broke was through something awful that directly impacted children. I think MJ was totally mentally ill and needed help. Also, I love the abandoned Neverland Park. What a trip. Love you, MJ.
